In order to fix this they have just recently pushed out an update which in essence redownloaded the whole game to reduce the original filesize of the game. This often resulted in an update only increasing the filesize by a couple of GB. They used to release patches in the 10's of GB's to add new characters and maps and fix glitches and bugs. They are updating whole swathes of files at once and that is why the update size doesn't reflect the changes in code size. Now when an update is released they aren't just updating that one line of code, that would be pointless. These rewrites are usually only a few bytes in size but require the whole file they are part of to be replaced. Not really if you think about what updates are.Īn update is often just a rewrite of a line/bunch of lines of code designed to resolve an issue.
